Subtle Daytime Looks

Jessica Mae’s advice unveils a world of understated sophistication, proving that even minimal applications can exude immense impact. Her approach transforms Mocha Mousse into a seamless daytime companion.

By incorporating this versatile hue with a “less is more” mentality, you yield a warm yet refined look. Applying this shade sparingly enhances natural beauty, evoking an air of effortless elegance.

Mocha Mousse's adaptability turns simplicity into a powerful style statement that seamlessly enhances understated elegance.

For beginners and makeup aficionados alike: focusing on the eyes or cheeks with a soft Mocha Mousse layer adds depth. Subdue boldness for a polished, day-ready aesthetic that transitions gracefully.

Bold Evening Styles

For a standout evening look, Jessica Mae notes that Mocha Mousse can also be effortlessly glamorous.

  1. Dramatic Eyes: Sweep a smokey Mocha Mousse shade across the eyelids for captivating depth and allure.

  2. Sultry Lips: Opt for a Mocha Mousse-infused lip color to achieve a rich, dramatic effect.

  3. Luminous Highlight: Strategically highlight cheekbones with a shimmer-infused Mocha Mousse for a radiant glow.

  4. Contour Mastery: Sculpt and define facial features using the deeper shades of Mocha Mousse.

  5. Polished Brows: Use Mocha Mousse to fill in brows, creating a frame that complements the evening's boldness.

By infusing these techniques, an elegant transformation is guaranteed for any evening affair.

Mocha Mousse provides a perfect balance of sophistication and audacity, elevating your evening aesthetic with grace.

Pairing Mocha Mousse with Fashion

When integrating Mocha Mousse into your makeup palette, consider its seamless adaptability and connection to fashion's fabrics.

This captivating shade pairs exquisitely with earthy tones and warm neutrals, allowing an interplay of colors to enhance your wardrobe effortlessly. Think shades of camel, olive, and deep burgundy that smartly echo Mocha Mousse's sophistication.

By accentuating both beauty elements, you create a cohesive narrative that resonates with today’s style connoisseurs.

Color Combinations

Mocha Mousse harmonizes effortlessly with a palette that uplifts and enhances its rich, elegant tones.

  • Golden Honey infuses warmth and radiance.

  • Sage Green introduces a refreshing, natural contrast.

  • Warm Beige complements with subtle sophistication.

  • Deep Plum adds depth and mystery.

  • Creamy Taupe offers a neutral canvas balancing the palette.

These combinations ensure a cohesive, polished look that stands out gracefully.

The versatility of Mocha Mousse allows these colors to meld beautifully, providing a sense of timeless style.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Navigating the application of Mocha Mousse in your makeup routine requires foresight to prevent common errors.

Firstly, avoid using excessively bold liners or shadows that overshadow the elegant Mocha Mousse base. Harmonize by allowing the color to lead softly.

Over-applying foundation is another misstep; you want the natural radiance of Mocha Mousse to shine through, not be obscured by a heavy base.

Ensure you select complementary colors for your skin tone, as Mocha Mousse is versatile yet can be dulled by mismatched shades. Experiment cautiously until you find your perfect blend.

Embrace Mocha Mousse’s subtlety and approach each application with precision and a light hand.

Nurse Lindsey's Lipstick Looks

With all the focus on our frontline workers during these challenging times, we wanted to give nurses and healthcare workers everywhere some simple makeup inspiration. So we reached out to our friend Lindsey Kuehl, who is a Minneapolis healthcare worker and also a Minneapolis model.

Nurse Lindsey’s 3 Days of Lipstick

With all the focus on our frontline workers during these challenging times, we wanted to give nurses and healthcare workers everywhere some simple makeup inspiration. So we reached out to our friend Lindsey Kuehl, who is a Minneapolis healthcare worker and also a Minneapolis model.

Now, you don’t have to be a model to wear these lipsticks or achieve these simple looks. But Lindsey loves her Instagram and knows how to take a great natural light photo.

She did these looks for us in her home.

Lindsey’s Lipstick Day 1

Lakshmi by Elixery

The first lipstick look, in blue scrubs, is done with Elixery Cosmetics “Lakshmi”. Lakshmi, named after The Hindu Goddess of Beauty and Wealth, was born atop a glittering lotus flower. To Her devotees, she grants prosperity.

Bright cool-toned fuchsia pink with subtle violet micro-shimmer. Beautiful on all skin tones – it even makes your teeth appear whiter! Lakshmi is for flirting and dancing all night; she’s not for the faint of heart. Be bold. Creamy satin finish. Lightly vanilla scented.

COLOR: Fuchsia (hot pink lipstick with violet iridescence)
FINISH: Satin/Pearl

Lindsey’s Lipstick Day 2

The second lipstick look, in light blue scrubs, is Tempest - also from Elixery Cosmetics. Tempest is a hard lipstick color to describe. Brown? Pink? A faint bluish shimmer? Some would call this "mauve" but Elixery tries to avoid that description (because mauve is technically purple - and Tempest is definitely not purple.)

It is a sheer color, nude on deeper skin tones and neutral on paler complexions. It's a gorgeous everyday color, perfect for the board room, and sexy enough for the bedroom, as they say. A perennial favorite.

COLOR: Brownish Pink Lipstick
FINISH: Sheer

The third lipstick look, in black scrubs is Color Intense in “Girls Night” from Beautycounter. An industry-leading standard of safety. The creamy formula moisturizes so lips feel soft and smooth, never dry, and uncomfortable. Natural peppermint oil delivers a subtly refreshing flavor. There are eight all-new shades in the Color Intense line ranging from naturally nude to intense red deliver the rich color payoff and luxe satin finish you want, with the safety you deserve.

Prince Inspired "Purple Rain" Makeup Look by Minneapolis Beauty Agency

2020 marks our first annual edition of “The Purple Rain Makeup Look” by WPI. WPI Artisan, Mia Pietruszewski, curates a glamourous and sexy look that pays appropriate tribute to his purple highness while also being a look that anyone can wear.

The “Purple Rain” Makeup Look

The First Annual “Purple Rain Makeup Look” by WPI 2020

It’s the anniversary of the passing of Minneapolis’s Purple Highness - Prince Rogers Nelson. Prince moved from the terrestrial to the celestial realm on April 21st, 2016; just four short years ago today. As Minnesotans, we celebrate the Purple One’s achievements more every year. Being a Minneapolis-based company (and residents), living the Lake Minnetonka area, just minutes from Prince’s Paisley Park home, we feel his loss even still today.

I wanted the eyes to be the main focal point of this look, so I began there.
— Misfit Mia

Prince Inspired Makeup

2020 marks our first annual edition of “The Purple Rain Makeup Look” by WPI. Since we are currently experiencing this unprecedented and historic time, these images are taken at home under The Makeup Light, on an iPhone. You can expect to see a new edition of Prince Inspired makeup looks every year going forward. We guarantee 2021 will be off the hook with live footage from a professional photo studio. So we tasked one of our WPI Artisans, Mia Pietruszewski, with curating a glamorous and sexy look that pays appropriate tribute to his purple highness while also being a look that anyone can wear - and rock it!

As it turns out, purple is the color of Mia’s soul, so this project was as natural as it was special for her.

Mia’s Inspiration

I wanted the eyes to be the main focal point of this look, so I began there. It took a lot of building to create the dimension I wanted. I started using the lighter shades in my palette to build shape, and really fine tuned the cat like shape with various shades of purple and black. I have Blue eyes, so knowing that purple is complimentary to that, I wanted to create a way for my eye color to pop even more. Lining all around the eye is a great way to make any eye look FIERCE!!

Of course I had to finish with my signature winged liner- you’ll rarely see me without 😉. A seriously purple hazey-smokey shade with ice cold blue eyes, and skin like glass. Fresh, dewy skin with a pop of blush is always my favorite.

Pro Tips from Misfit Mia:

  1. Don’t ever skip the blush!

  2. My highlighter could always stop traffic, and that’s the way I like it!

  3. A look is never complete without lips- even if it’s just gloss!

How To Keep Your Makeup From Running When You're Sweaty

Any woman who’s performed in front of a crowd knows how stressful it can be. The human body is a marvelous, powerful thing, but it tends to react in the extreme when we’re faced with any stress of our own. This leads to one of makeup’s biggest enemies: sweat.

How to keep makeup from running

Any woman who’s performed in front of a crowd knows how stressful it can be. The human body is a marvelous, powerful thing, but it tends to react in the extreme when we’re faced with any stress of our own. This leads to one of makeup’s biggest enemies: sweat.

When makeup is up against so many odds from bright, hot lights to sweaty skin, how do you keep your makeup looking it’s best? How do celebrities preserve their perfect looks on the red carpets and when it’s heating up on sets? What about the performers and dancers of the world who break a sweat during their time on stage? Here are tips from the experts for keeping your makeup from running when you’re sweaty.

How To Keep Your Makeup From Running When You're Sweaty

Start with a primer

If your makeup doesn’t have the right base, it’ll be more likely to slide right off your face. Just like when you paint a wall in your house, you have to start with a fresh coat of primer. While your face isn’t exactly a wall, the same principle applies. If you’re prone to oily skin or excessive sweat, you especially should consider using a primer.

When selecting a face primer, opt for one built for your skin type. If you’re prone to oil, choose a mattifying or smoothing primer which will keep your face from getting that shiny look. If you have a lot of redness, opt for a color correcting primer with green undertones.

Choose your foundation wisely

You don’t want to overdo it with your foundation when you’re likely to be sweating. For example, if it’s the height of summer on your wedding day, don’t go for the heaviest coverage you can find. These will only bleed down your face throughout the day. Instead, opt for powder or airbrush makeup. Powder makeup is lighter and stays put much more effectively than liquid foundation.

Additionally, airbrush makeup provides consistent, moderate coverage without appearing heavy. Because it’s applied in a very fine mist, it has a stronger staying power. Airbrushed makeup lasts longer and feels lighter. Because it allows your pores to breath, you’re less likely to feel overheated throughout the day.

Don’t listen to makeup that claims to be sweat-proof. Natural, high-quality makeup is naturally sweat-proof. Because it contains talc as a binding agent, it has natural abilities to stick to your skin without sliding throughout the day. This is yet another reason to be meticulous when selecting the right foundation for your needs.

How To Keep Your Makeup From Running When You're Sweaty

Set your makeup

Finally, your makeup needs to be set after application to guarantee it stays where you want it. Using a setting powder will help absorb any excess oil and sweat, so it’s a great first layer. Aside from setting powder, a setting spray will add another barrier between your makeup and the outside world.

Look for a setting spray that doesn’t have any alcohol on the ingredients list. Using a setting spray with alcohol is drying to the face which can cause cracks in your foundation. You wouldn’t risk driving without insurance, would you? Why would you waste your makeup without setting it with powder and spray?

Be prepared to blot

No matter what you do, some sweat might still sneak through. This is okay if you’re prepared with the right tools for touching up your look. It might be tempting to jump right to re-applying your makeup when you see signs of it slipping, but don’t start there. It’s smarter to blot with oil blotting paper or a paper towel to get rid of excessive oil before you touch up your look. If you skip this step, there won’t be much for your makeup to stick to.

Look to the pros

Finally, take a hint from the professionals. Dancers, for example, rock their full-faces of makeup despite harsh lights and high stress. They use professional-level makeup to make sure they have perfect performances every time. Alexandra has the perfect dance shoes just as professional dancers use high-quality makeup and professional application.

If you’re planning for your big day, whether it’s a performance or even your wedding day, you might consider professional help. A qualified makeup artist can help you establish a sweat-proof beauty routine. In the meantime, use the tips above to keep your face looking fresh all day long.

Still, there’s a lot of chances to look pretty enough even if you are having strands of grey hair on your head or unattractive marks and wrinkles on your face. You just need to remember that the makeup rules which you lived by in your 20s or 30s don’t apply anymore. Instead, plump up your skin with these exclusive makeup tips!! You just need to remember that the makeup rules which you lived by in your 20s or 30s don’t apply anymore. Instead, plump up your skin with these exclusive makeup tips!! Read on and enlighten yourself with these magic tricks.

Conceal your Fine Lines

When it comes to hiding your fine lines and wrinkles while you are aging, there is not a lotion or potion can make that happen. But, if you apply moisturizer before applying foundation and concealer then it will boost up your skin while making those fine lines disappear.

Moisturizing before applying your foundation can even help the process of apply evenly. Just ensure that you are using a premium quality moisturizer. You can buy such high-end products at an affordable rate while grabbing lucrative Beauty Brand coupons.

4 Makeup tips for Older women

Secretly Plump your Lips

It might seem to you that your lips are getting thinner as you grow older. If you want to accentuate them, using a lip gloss may be the best thing that you can do. Nothing can work better than this actually!

You just have to add a little color first while filling in your lips with a lip liner or lipstick which should be a shade or two darker than the natural lip color that you want to use. Finally, once you are done, dab a bit of gloss on the top. Voila! You got an instant lip plumper.

Use Eye Pencils Rather than Eyeliners

Eye pencils are far more soft than eyeliners. So, opt for it instead of a liner which could be harsh on your aging eyes. If you want to soften the lines even more then don’t forget to smudge it with your fingers. Moreover, if you have smaller eyes then don’t line the inside of the eye. It will make your eyes appear even smaller.

If you’re over 50, these makeup tips certainly can help spruce up your look naturally.
— Arina

Definitely, go for Primer

As one ages, you can expect that your skin will eventually suffer from one or another of skin conditions. Along with you, your skin is aging, so, primer becomes something very significant for you before you do your makeup. If you apply a layer of primer before your makeup and your skin then it will let your eyeshadow, foundation, mascara and everything else flawlessly flaunt itself.

Moreover, if you use shadows then I recommend using primers for your eyes. Also, if you are going to apply foundation then opting for a primer before that seems to be an obvious step.

End of the Line

If you're over 50, these makeup tips certainly can help spruce up your look naturally. Stand up straight, do your makeup with confidene, and look as stunning as you did on your sweet sixteen!

3 Top Trending Wedding Makeup Looks

When thinking about what style of makeup you are going for, the way in which you communicate to your artist is essential. Here are the top 3 trending wedding makeup looks and my recommendation on how to acheive them.

There is so much that goes into planning your wedding. The venue, Photographer, Flowers, THE Dress, etc. When it comes time to think about what you want your wedding makeup looks to be for the big day, there is SO much to think about. Not to mention the countless photos on Pinterest, Instagram and Google. Where to begin?

When thinking about what style of makeup you are going for, the way in which you communicate to your artist is essential.
— Jessica Mae

My recommendation is to stay true to who you are. Really think about what your personal style is, and make your goal to accentuate that. Too often I hear about brides who go against what they truly want, and where their comfort zone truly lies. Now, if you are someone who wants to do something different and out of your comfort zone, by all means, go for it girl!

When thinking about what style of makeup you are going for, the way that you communicate to your makeup artist is essential. Having photos of inspiration is a great starting point, but also knowing what you want and using the right terms to describe it will lend to the success of the look.

I am here to help! I have broken down 3 Top Trending Wedding Makeup Looks to aid in not only narrowing down the look you want, but also being able to then communicate that to your artist.

On to the wedding makeup looks!

Natural

For ladies that want to slightly enhance their natural beauty, keeping your makeup look simple is the way to go. This is what most brides ask their artists for, but knowing what natural makeup means to an artist versus you is very important. Coming prepared with photos is key. When this makeup look is requested it is also helpful to have a photo of yourself with your daily makeup done. This way it gives your artist a gauge of what you're used to - if anything at all.

Knowing what natural makeup means to an artist versus you is very important.

When a natural makeup look is requested I recommend airbrush foundation as it tends to look more like your actual skin and is lightweight while still giving nice coverage. When requesting this look from your artist it is helpful to use descriptive words like; fresh, glowy (if you like a glowy look), not over done, myself but slightly enhanced.

Pro tip: When thinking about lashes for a natural look, ask your artist about individual lashes or a half strip lash.

naturalbridalmakeup.jpg

Natural

You, but a little more than your every day.

Romantic

I love this look for brides who want to have a hint of glam, but not too much. This type of makeup look is great for clients who want more than their every day look, but still would like to look like themselves. For me, what makes a look romantic is adding lashes and a little hint of smokiness to the shadow. This makeup look works for any type of venue or time of year. When requesting this look from your artist it is helpful to use descriptive words like; medium spicy, natural glam, romantic.

Pro Tip: For an extra pop, have your artist use shadows with some shimmer to them!

Glam

Full on bold and spicy! Glam looks are great for clients who love to wear makeup and want to make a statement with their look. If you're considering this look you can count on a bold lip, a smokey eye, some contouring (or sculpting which I prefer to call it) and of course lashes! I typically see brides request this type of look if they have a Fall, Winter or evening wedding, but the Glam bride can rock this look any time she wants. When requesting this look from your artist it is helpful to use descriptive words like; sassy, sexy, bold.

Pro Tip: Take your look to the next level by adding wings to your eye liner!

Glam

For those not afraid to make a statement.

Whatever style of makeup you decide on, make sure it makes you feel like your most beautiful self. Too often I have brides in my chair who are easily influenced by others (ahem... Mother of the Bride and sisters...) of what they think the bride should have for makeup. Remember, you're the one getting married - not them.

One last piece of advice...

Keep in mind when you are looking for inspiration images... any image you find online is likely edited. Some more so than others, but they are all edited. It is also a good idea to find photos where the person in it has similar features to you. Having realistic expectations not only sets you up for success but your artist as well.

Grab a piece of scotch tape and lay it strategically to prevent the shadow or liner from going where it shouldn’t. This is especially helpful when you’re doing winged eye liner. Lay the tape at an angle so you can draw the line along the edge of the tape. This will also help keep both sides even.

2. Easy lip exfoliation
Use a baby or child toothbrush to exfoliate your lips. You can coat your lips in lip balm or petroleum jelly before you scrub them. For more serious exfoliation, you can also make a homemade lip exfoliation treatment by mixing sugar and coconut oil.

3. Wash your hair the right way
Make sure your hair is wet before applying shampoo. If you have long hair (hair below your shoulders), condition your ends before you shampoo; this will help protect them from drying out or being damaged more. You only need to lather your hair at the scalp, and in particular the nape of the neck. You only need to condition from the “middle” section of your hair to the ends, and the longer the conditioner stays in your hair, the better it absorbs. And lastly, rinse your hair with cold water; this shuts the cuticle and gives your hair the most shine.

4. Plastic spoons are your friends
Got a plastic spoon lying around? When you’re applying mascara to your bottom lashes, place the spoon directly under your bottom lashes (the underside of the spoon facing up) to avoid getting any mascara on the skin. You can also get a thicker coat this way.

5. Find the right shade
When you’re choosing a foundation, test the color on the skin near your jaw line. Try to do this in natural light. You don’t want the shade of your foundation to be too different than the natural color of your neck.

6. Make your eyes look bigger
Instead of using a dark pencil or liner in your water line, use a white pencil. This will create the illusion of a bigger eye.

7. Heat your eyelash curler
Hold a hairdryer to your eyelash curler for about 3-5 seconds. This works in the same way that a curling iron does. The curl will last longer!

8. Use a clarifying shampoo
Clarifying shampoos help remove buildup from styling products. However, you don’t need to use one everyday; they can be used once a week. They also help prevent dandruff and other scalp and hair conditions.

9.  Keep your eye liner in place
To ensure your eye liner stays where it’s supposed to, particularly under the bottom lashes, apply pressed or loose powder directly under the eye liner on your lower lid. This creates kind of a barrier which prevents your eye liner from moving downward.

10. Compliment that pedicure
Pedicures are great, but it’s also important to take care of your feet—not just your toes! Scrub your feet with a pumice stone in the shower every morning. After you dry off, apply moisturizing cream to your feet. This way, you don’t need a pedicure as often. It also keeps your feet healthy and the fungus away.

11. Enhance those lips
To make your lips look slightly fuller, line your lips just outside of the natural line. Don’t go TOO far outside of this line! You want it to look natural. Choose a shade of lip liner that is very close to your lipstick color.

12. Nail Color that Pops
Instead of using a clear base coat under your favorite nail polish, use a coat of white nail polish instead. It will make your nail color pop more, with a bolder, brighter color. It will also protect your natural nails from becoming stained by heavily colored polishes.

13. Perfect Winged Eyeliner
Achieving that winged look around your eyes that everyone loves is really easy, and all you need is your eyeliner pencil and a spoon. Start your eyeliner being drawn from the outer edge of your eye, and press the rounded side of the spoon against your eyelid, moving the pencil around it as a guide. Move the spoon outwards as you draw the shape of your liner, then fill it in with your pencil.

14. That Smoky Look Made Easy
If you’ve wanted to try that smoky eye makeup look but think you lack the skills, think again! With your darker eyeliner, draw a hashtag at the outer corner of each of your eyelids. Make it slanted to follow the line of your lid. Just blend it in as you apply your eyeshadow, and you’ll get a nice smoky look without the hassle.

15. Apply Concealer the Right Way
Instead of dotting your concealer under your eyes, instead apply it in a triangular shape, extending down the side of your nose, across the tops of your cheeks up to the outer corner of your eye, and across the bottom of each eye. This will not only hide redness beneath your eyes, but will also brighten your entire face, instead of making your under-eye area oddly lighter than the rest of your skin.
